Tredagh Boxing Academy returned from the Monkstown International Box Cup with two gold medals, a silver medal and a host of impressive performances against some of the best amateur boxers from Ireland and abroad.
Held at the National Boxing Stadium, the prestigious tournament attracted national champions and international squads, providing a major test for the Drogheda club’s boxers across all age groups and experience levels.
The competition began with skills bouts for Holly Barnett, Emma Carter, Shay McIlarney, Seb Thornton and Valentine Aigbekaen. While medals are not awarded in these contests, all five impressed coaches with their composure, technical development and confidence in the ring.
Several Tredagh boxers also reached the latter stages of the competition after strong displays throughout the tournament. Ceejay Sheelan, Andrew Mathews, Conan McCormack, Daniel Mathews and Charlie Flanagan all produced competitive performances, with a number narrowly missing out on progression following close decisions against high calibre opponents.
The club enjoyed particular success in the senior stages of the tournament.
Adam Walsh claimed gold after winning three international contests, defeating highly regarded English boxer Michael Ward in the final to take the Monkstown International Box Cup title.

Charlie Flanagan also struck gold, producing an outstanding display to defeat Finland’s national champion in the final and secure another title for Tredagh.
Sasha Donica reached the final after an impressive run through the competition before taking home a well earned silver medal following a closely contested championship bout.
Club officials said the standard of competition throughout the tournament was exceptionally high, with every contest providing valuable experience for the academy’s boxers.

They also praised the dedication of the athletes, the support of parents and the commitment of the coaching team, while thanking the organisers of the Monkstown International Box Cup for staging one of Europe’s leading amateur boxing tournaments.
With two gold medals, one silver medal and valuable experience gained across every age group, the academy said the weekend marked another positive step in the continued development of its boxers.
