Deputy Ged Nash has welcomed confirmation, provided to him by the HSE, that an additional 10,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccinations have been secured for Louth/Meath.
He said that the delay in rolling out the vaccination programme to locals aged 50-59 had been unacceptable and distressing for the people of Louth and Meath who, he said, felt overlooked and ignored when they look at the performance of the programme in Dublin and elsewhere.
“I have been in persistent contact with senior HSE officials on this very pressing issue over the last few days and as a result the HSE has confirmed a major uptick in the provision of the J&J single shot jab to be administered in Louth and Meath” Nash said.
“The additional 10,000 doses will be administered to locals through DIFE, The Helix (DCU) and the Fairways (Dundalk) with the aim of completing the 50-69 cohort by the middle or end of next week.
“This is a welcome development and I again made the case to the HSE to ensure that our centre at DIFE is fully staffed-up to allow it to go to a five or indeed seven day service. That should be their aim and to ensure the best possible service for the people of Drogheda, South Louth and East Meath.
“I also want to thank the staff who are operating this key service at DIFE for the tremendous work they are doing. The feedback from those who have received their vaccinations at the centre has been incredibly positive and they ought to be very proud of the important work they are engaged in.”
