More than 170 new social and age friendly homes have been opened across Louth in what has been described as a major step forward for housing in the county.
Local TD Erin McGreehan joined Housing Minister James Browne and Minister of State Kieran O’Donnell at three developments in Dundalk and Drogheda to mark the openings.
The first visit was to Dundalk where Phase One of the Fulacht Fia development at Mount Avenue was officially opened. This phase includes 52 social homes, with a total of 93 planned for the full scheme.
“Fulacht Fia will make a real difference for dozens of families in Dundalk and is a welcome addition to the town,” Deputy McGreehan said.
The group then travelled to Drogheda for the opening of Greenhills Grange, a development of 46 homes designed for older residents. It includes 45 two bedroom bungalows and one assisted living unit, aimed at helping people stay living independently in their community.
“Greenhills Grange shows what age friendly housing should look like; homes that allow older people to remain independent and close to community and services,” she said.
The final stop was Boice Court in Drogheda, a 72 home social housing development.
Deputy McGreehan said the number of homes opened in one day showed real progress locally.
“To see over 170 homes opened across Louth in a single day is hugely positive. These homes will change lives. Louth needs continued delivery like this, and today’s openings demonstrate that progress is being made,” she said.
She also said the visit by both housing ministers highlighted the importance of Louth in national housing plans.
“Having the Ministers for Housing here on the ground sends a clear signal that Louth matters and that housing delivery in our towns is a priority.”
Figures released alongside the visits show that since 2020, 2,409 first time buyers in Louth have used the Help to Buy scheme to purchase or build a home.
“These figures underline how vital these supports are for people trying to buy a home in the county,” she said.
Nationally, new figures show a 32.9 per cent increase in housing completions in the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. A total of 7,856 homes were completed between January and March, including 364 in Louth.
