Free heart and hearing checks coming to Tullyallen next Friday

Irish Heart Foundation Mobile Health Unit offering free blood pressure and pulse checks

Free heart health checks will be available in Tullyallen next week when the Irish Heart Foundation’s Mobile Health Unit visits the village.

The unit will be parked at Tullyallen Pharmacy on Main Street from 10.30am until 4.15pm on Friday, 28th August.

Members of the public will be able to have their blood pressure and pulse checked free of charge, while Hidden Hearing will also offer free earwax checks and video otoscopy to check ear health.

No appointment is needed for the hearing checks.

Helping detect high blood pressure

The Irish Heart Foundation’s Mobile Health Unit travels to communities around the country offering free cardiovascular health checks.

The service aims to help identify people who may have high blood pressure, or hypertension, without knowing it.

High blood pressure is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and can often go unnoticed because it may not cause obvious symptoms.

The Irish Heart Foundation says its Mobile Health Unit provides up to 10,000 free blood pressure checks each year.

Expert nurses are also available during visits to provide information and practical advice on maintaining good heart health.

The checks can also help identify an irregular pulse which may indicate atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat associated with an increased risk of serious health problems.

Hearing checks also available

The Tullyallen visit will also include hearing health checks through the Irish Heart Foundation’s collaboration with Hidden Hearing.

The partnership brings hearing assessments alongside cardiovascular checks during Mobile Health Unit visits.

Hidden Hearing will offer free earwax checks and video otoscopy, which allows the inside of the ear to be examined.

The Irish Heart Foundation’s annual report says the partnership with Hidden Hearing introduced hearing checks alongside cardiovascular assessments as part of a broader approach to preventative health checks in communities.

The Tullyallen stop follows a previous Mobile Health Unit visit to Ardee earlier this summer and continues bringing free checks to communities across Louth

Anyone wishing to avail of the checks can visit Tullyallen Pharmacy between 10.30am and 4.15pm on Friday, 28th August.
