TD Paula Butterly  welcomes €18,000 Funding Boost for Outdoor Swimming Facilities in Louth

The funding allocation of €18,000 for Louth forms part of a nationwide €400,000 investment announced by the Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD. The initiative aims to enhance outdoor swimming locations across the country by improving infrastructure and accessibility.

The funding for Louth will support the provision of lockers and shower facilities at the three popular coastal locations, significantly enhancing the experience for local residents and visitors alike.

“I am absolutely delighted to see this further funding awarded to Louth. Our beaches at Clogherhead, Port and Templetown are treasured community amenities, and this investment will make them even more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

“Importantly, this builds on previous Healthy Ireland funding secured for Louth last year, which saw €20,000 allocated for the installation of movable double Beach Changing cabins at Clogherhead, Port and Templetown. In addition, funding of €10,000 was provided for amphibious wheelchairs at these locations, greatly improving accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

“This earlier investment helped to enhance basic facilities and accessibility at these locations, and it is very positive to see that continued commitment reflected again in this latest announcement.

“This latest funding also places a strong emphasis on accessibility, ensuring that people of all abilities can enjoy our beautiful coastline. This is something I have always strongly advocated for and supported” said Deputy Butterly

Deputy Butterly highlighted the importance of outdoor swimming for both physical and mental wellbeing “Outdoor swimming has become increasingly popular and offers enormous health benefits. It is fantastic to see continued investment in facilities that allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy these natural resources safely.

“I look forward to seeing these improvements in place and to continued investment in our local amenities that support healthier, more active communities,” said the Louth TD.
