Construction has officially begun on a new Disability Day Care Centre at the former Healthcare Centre in Laytown, marking a significant milestone for local families. Fine Gael Cllr Sharon Tolan has welcomed the development as a long-awaited investment that will enhance support and day services for people with disabilities across the Laytown–Bettystown area and surrounding communities.
Speaking on the development, Cllr Tolan said:
“I am delighted to see work now underway on this vital project. For many families across Laytown, Bettystown and beyond, access to appropriate day services is essential. This centre will help ensure that people with disabilities can access high-quality, local support in a setting that promotes independence, inclusion and wellbeing.”
Cllr Tolan also highlighted the importance of making best use of existing community assets:
“It is particularly positive to see an existing public building being upgraded and brought back into active use. Making effective and timely use of buildings like the former Healthcare Centre allows us to deliver essential services more efficiently while revitalising local infrastructure.”
Cllr Tolan also acknowledged the collaboration involved in bringing the project to this stage:
“Our community has expanded rapidly in recent years, and it is crucial that services keep pace. This development is a positive step forward and reflects a strong commitment to supporting all members of our community.”
Work is expected to progress over the coming months, with the new centre set to make a meaningful difference to individuals and families across East Meath.
