Young people interested in street art had the opportunity to learn from one of Ireland’s best-known graffiti artists during a special Cruinniú na nÓg 2026 event in Drogheda.

Street Art: The Essentials with Sums took place yesterday, introducing young people aged 13 to 18 to the basics of street and mural art.

The free workshop offered participants an insight into the creative world of graffiti and large-scale public art, with attendees encouraged to come along on their own or bring a friend.

Sums, who is originally from Drogheda, has been actively involved in the graffiti scene since 1989 and has played a major role in the growth of graffiti culture in Ireland.

He has also been co-organiser of Bridge Over Troubled Water, also known as The Bridge Jam Festival, for the past 15 years. The festival is regarded as one of the longest-running graffiti festivals in Europe and possibly the world.

Through his work, Sums has helped raise awareness of the Irish graffiti and street art scene internationally.

His artwork has been exhibited in Ireland, England, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark and New York, as well as in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide in Australia.

The workshop formed part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2026, the national day of free creativity for children and young people, which saw a wide range of events taking place across the country.
