Tredagh Boxing Club Celebrates Four Wins Across Germany and Ireland

Last weekend will go down as one of the standout moments in the history of Tredagh Boxing Club, with three of its rising talents delivering superb performances on both international and national stages. Charlie Flanagan, Andrew Mathews and Adam Walsh not only represented the club with pride, they produced results that underline Tredagh’s growing reputation as one of the country’s most exciting amateur boxing hubs.

Charlie and Andrew travelled to Munich with the Leinster Development Squad for a dual international against a strong German selection. Facing national champions on home soil, both boxers rose to the challenge.

Charlie opened the weekend with a superb technical display. Taking on a reigning German champion, he controlled the first two rounds with sharp combinations and clever movement. Although the final round tightened, Charlie stayed composed and secured a deserved win. Beating a home champion in Germany is no small achievement, and he delivered it with the calm and confidence of a much more experienced athlete.

Andrew followed with a performance that energised the entire Leinster squad. After a strong opening round, a nosebleed threatened to unsettle him, but instead he doubled down. His relentless pressure forced a standing count in the second round, and two more in the third as he overwhelmed his taller opponent. A unanimous decision capped a dominant performance and a second major win for Leinster and Tredagh.

The squad rounded off their visit with a tour of Bayern Munich’s famous football grounds, a well-earned reward following two outstanding victories. Tredagh Boxing Club extended thanks to Mick Darby and the Leinster Development Programme for providing these international development opportunities.

Back in Ireland, Adam Walsh carried the momentum into the Multinations Schoolboys Tournament in Dublin. Fresh from big wins in Manchester and Belfast, he entered the weekend brimming with confidence.

On Saturday, Adam faced the Kilkenny fighter who had beaten him earlier in the Leinster Championships. This time, Adam produced a controlled and clever performance across all three rounds, landing sharp counterpunches and dictating the pace throughout. He took a clear unanimous win and booked his place in the final.

On Sunday, he returned to face the Antrim Champion and delivered again. Dominating the distance and controlling the exchanges, Adam claimed the title and was crowned overall Multinations Champion.

The results meant Tredagh finished the weekend with four wins from four bouts across Germany and Ireland.

Straight after his victory, Adam returned to Drogheda to join thirty clubmates at Tredagh’s packed Sparring Camp, which brought together more than 180 boxers from 18 clubs. With three rings running continuously for five hours, the camp offered valuable experience for all involved.

Tredagh also celebrated another milestone, as young boxer Cian Smyth received an invitation to join the Leinster Development Squad in Carlow, where he will now train alongside Charlie and Andrew.

From Munich to Dublin and back to Drogheda, the weekend showcased the talent, resilience and ambition of Tredagh Boxing Club’s young athletes. Charlie, Andrew and Adam delivered not just victories, but performances that signal a bright future for the club and for Irish youth boxing.
