New Mill Road Footpath and Cycleway to Be Built During School Holidays

South Drogheda & East Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor, Stephen McKee, has received confirmation from Meath County Council that they have engaged a Contractor to progress a new path and cycle track along the Mill Road to link the schools and that it will be constructed over the School Summer Holidays.

McKee stated: ‘It is clear that a footpath to link the schools on the Mill Road is badly needed to meet the needs of local residents and provide a safe and viable alternative to the car for families.’

‘Funding was allocated for the provision of this new footpath and cycle way on the back of extensive lobbying of the Council on my part to improve infrastructure in the area.’

‘We now need to see movement on the provision of a footpath from the top of the Mill Road down to Donacarney which would provide a safe walking and cycling route from the schools on the Mill Road down to Donacarney. It would also be the final piece in the jigsaw to provide a safe walking route between Colpe, Donacarney, Bettystown and Laytown.’

‘Families and children in particular should be able to safely walk from Donacarney to all our local Schools. This would serve also in seeing a reduction in the amount of cars using the Colpe Road at peak times and would give travel options to parents who face increasing transport costs.’

‘I am pleased that the Council have committed to works on the provision of a new footpath and cycle way on the Mill Road over the Summer months. I will keep the pressure on to ensure that this project comes to fruition as soon as possible’ concluded McKee.
