South Drogheda/East Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee has warmly welcomed the commitment given by Meath County Council to put in place road safety measures at Beamore Cross, Drogheda.
McKee said: “I warmly welcome the news that a new roundabout has emerged as the preferred option to deal with road safety issues at Beamore Cross which I lobbied strongly for alongside local residents. The Council expect work on the job to start within the next 15 months or so once everything is in order.”
“Making improvements for this junction has been a priority issue for me over the past number of years so I am delighted that progress is being made. This follows on from the improvements made at Mounthanover Junction which I also lobbied strongly for.”
“Sadly, there have been a number of tragic accidents and crashes both locations over the last number of years.”
“Meath County Council tell me that Atkins Consulting Engineers have been appointed as the design team to progress the R108/L16111 Junction Safety Scheme at Beamore. The design team are finalising the Option Selection Phase of the Scheme and the emerging preferred option is a roundabout. Local landowners are being engaged with and I thank them for their support.”
“I will continue to lobby strongly on behalf of South Drogheda residents to ensure improved road safety all along the Beamore Road. I would like to thank local people for their support in keeping this issue front and centre,” concluded McKee.
