Glen Stream at Newfoundwell must be cleared- Callan

Deputy Mayor Kevin Callan has called on Louth County Council to carry out emergency works at the Glen stream where is travels under the public road at Newfoundwell which is currently blocked with debris and rubbish at the grill built into the bridge.

“With extremely high rain levels, this stream like most watercourses across the county, is full if not in full flood. This issue of rubbish blocking the grills at the bridge happens most years but this is particularly dangerous with more and more flooding expected” Cllr. Callan said.

Cllr Callan addec that hike is requesting urgent action from the Council and is also advising people to be careful if walking in the area with dogs to make sure to keep them off the banks down into the stream.

We need to remove objects like trollies which are nearly totally submerged in the flooded area. A dog or their owner could easily get into difficulty if they were to enter the watercourse.
