Chloe Cooney wins national bronze at Irish Indoor Championships

Sixteen year old Chloe Cooney has won bronze in the under 18 girls 1500m final at the Irish Indoor Championships in Athlone.

The Ace AC athlete delivered a strong performance to add another national medal to her growing list of achievements. She has previously won medals at 600m, 800m, 1500m and in cross country, showing consistent form at championship level.

Competing at the Athlone IT Indoor Arena, the large entry meant the event was split into two time based finals. Cooney lined up in the faster second race, having watched the earlier heat and knowing what would be needed to challenge for a medal.

She made a strong start and settled into second place before dropping back to fourth as the race progressed. Staying close to the leaders, she made her move in the final stages, pushing hard over the last 200 metres to secure third place just before the finish line.

It was another strong result for Ace AC, who continue to feature regularly at national level where medals are hard won.

Elsewhere, Lorcan Forde Dunne has been named the 2025 Juvenile Star Award winner for County Louth by the Athletics Ireland Juvenile Competition Committee. He is due to receive his award at an event in the Mullingar Park Hotel on Saturday, April 18.

Lorcan was also part of the Athletics Ireland elite training development squad and spent last week in Spain as part of the programme.
