It will coincide with another ten cent increase on the existing 2.30 toll which ironically comes into effect on the same day.
All motorists in the area who are fed up with the rip of tolls are urged to attend. Protestors are urged to gather at the Junction 9 entrance to the motorway at 11am on January 1.
The event is being organised by former councillor and long time Make Drogheda Toll Free campaigner Ken O’Heiligh.
He said:” Eight years remain on the 30 year ramp toll contract, an unfair burden on businesses and local road users. Tolls are set to increase again, making it even harder on our local community.
” This toll was designed for a Drogheda that no longer exists. Today it penalises local life, not toll avoidance. Eight more years is far too long. This campaign is not party political but it is political in purpose, to change outdated government policy.
” Stand with us Make Drogheda Toll Free for a better future.”
