Over €6.5 million in advance payments for Louth farmers

Advance payments worth more than €6.59 million will begin issuing to farmers in Louth from Thursday, October 16th, according to Fine Gael TD Paula Butterly.

Deputy Butterly said the payments, under the 2025 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) schemes, are a vital boost to local farm families and the wider Louth economy.

“These payments will make a significant contribution to the wider economy of Louth,” she said. “They’re not just numbers on a spreadsheet — they equate to bills being paid, machinery getting repaired, and families right around Louth supported.”

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon TD confirmed that €510.9 million in advance BISS and CRISS payments will begin issuing nationally to over 110,000 farmers, alongside earlier area-based payments under the Areas of Natural Constraints Scheme.

“These payments are a critical element of family farm income and make a significant contribution to the wider rural economy,” Minister Heydon said.

He added that 93.87% of eligible applications have already been paid, with remaining cases to be processed “as a matter of urgency.”
