ESB Networks has issued a strong public safety message as Storm Amy brings high winds and the risk of damage to electricity infrastructure across the country today (Friday, 3rd October).
Met Éireann has placed six counties under a Status Orange wind warning from 2pm to 10pm, with the remainder of the country under a Status Yellow warning. The conditions are expected to cause damage to the power network, particularly in areas experiencing the strongest gusts.
Crews and partner contractors have been mobilised nationwide in preparation. Teams will be deployed to assess damage, make the network safe, and restore electricity supply as soon as conditions allow. Customers can check for local outage updates and estimated restoration times at www.PowerCheck.ie.
Households should prepare in case of power cuts by ensuring torches and spare batteries are available, keeping mobile phones charged, and planning ahead.
An important public safety reminder was issued: “If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach them as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage by calling 1800 372 999.”
Storm Amy is expected to ease later tonight, but ESB Networks has confirmed it will continue to monitor the situation closely and respond where safe to do so.
