In June 2019 A group of 60 or 70 walkers set off from St. Peter’s Church in Drogheda on the first ever Boyne Valley Camino.
The Boyne Valley Camino is a magical blend of greenway, riverside, woodland paths, quiet country roads, canal paths, green fields’ and historical locations really is a special gem in the heart of the Boyne Valley.
The 25 kilometre looped walk, which starts and finishes in Drogheda, is an official leg of the famous Camino de Santiago de Compostela and ever since that first day it has been a major success and not only for the hundreds of walkers who have completed it.
Yesterday Dusty Flanagan of the Boyne Valley Walking Group who were responsible for establishing the Camino, presented a cheque for over 13,000 to the North East Cancer Research and Education Trust (NECRET) who support the Oncology Unit, in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda.
The money was raised by participants in the second charity outing of the Walking Group which took place on Saturday July 24.
Thanking the walkers for their efforts, Professor Bryan Hennessy who spearheads NECRET said: “Our mission is to improve the treatment and outcomes of people with cancer by supporting cutting edge treatment and care, we are greatly appreciative to the Boyne Valley Walking Group for their wonderful support in running the event.
“We also sincerely thank everyone who participated and supported our Camino fundraiser.”
