Taking time to reflect on what truly matters in life is a rare gift. Yet, these moments of introspection and connection are essential, they allow us to reconnect with our values, celebrate the lives we’ve lived and create something meaningful for the people we cherish most.
So says Sarah Gardiner, a qualified death doula (end of life companion) and civil funeral celebrant with over four years of experience who has organised a legacy project workshop in November called Cherished Memories which offers our community a unique opportunity to do just that.
Every Monday morning for four weeks, participants will gather at The Market House in Dunleer to embark on a journey of storytelling, creativity and legacy making.
“This workshop is more than just an event; it’s a chance to create a timeless gift for loved ones while engaging in a deeply fulfilling process of self-reflection” Sarah said.
“This workshop is designed to be a supportive and empowering space where participants of all backgrounds and ages can come together to create a project that reflects their lives and values” she added.
Sarah brings a compassionate approach to this workshop, which she describes as an opportunity to “leave a piece of yourself” that will comfort and connect future generations. Her dedication to guiding others through life’s transitions has shaped her belief that legacy work isn’t about death or dying, it’s about life and living.
Over the course of the four week workshop, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their lives, values and memories, choosing a creative format that best represents their unique journey. Whether it’s a memory jar, a photo album filled with stories, a recorded message or a family recipe book, participants will be empowered to express themselves in a way that resonates with them. Importantly, there are no strict rules or limitations; this process is open to everyone and can be adapted to fit any life stage or circumstance.
The structure of the workshop offers both a focused approach and plenty of space for personal reflection. Each weekly session will include a combination of project work, group discussions and guided meditations, allowing participants to ease into the creative process while connecting with others in a safe and supportive environment. By the end of the four weeks, everyone will leave with a completed legacy project, a gift that will be cherished by their families for years to come.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the workshop is its emphasis on community. In a world that often feels fragmented, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to come together, share stories and recognise the profound impact we each have on those around us. The connections participants make through these sessions can be as lasting and meaningful as the projects themselves, creating a sense of camaraderie and support that extends beyond the workshop.
The Legacy Project Workshop is open to limited participants, allowing for an intimate experience where everyone’s voice and story can be heard. Sessions will take place each Monday in November, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, total cost is €90. Spaces are filling up fast, so those interested are encouraged to secure their spot today.
In giving yourself the time to reflect and create, you’re also giving your family something they can hold onto, a reminder of your love, your life and your legacy. Take this opportunity to join the Cherish Memories Legacy Project Workshop and create something truly meaningful for the ones you hold dear.
