Power seeks Council action on dangerous road at King Williams Glen

Concerns have been growing among local people about a section of the road at King Williams Glen that has become badly deteriorated and is posing a danger to drivers and pedestrians alike.

Drogheda Rural Independent Councillor Declan raised the issue with County Council officials at the recent Borough Council meeting.

Councillor Power said that the damaged part of the road is approximately two thirds of the way down the hill on the left-hand side, coming from the Tullyallen side towards the Slane road.

“For a long time, this section of the road has been marked with Flexi-bollards and plastic mesh and over the last couple of months it has deteriorated rapidly” he said.

“I would have great concern for pedestrians who walk this road and for motorists and cyclists. The fall on the side of the road is quite steep, leading down to the river. I have asked Louth County Council to investigate this dangerous section and explore a better system of protective measures.”

Louth County Council Senior Engineer, Mark Johnson, told Councillor Power that Louth the Council is preparing an action plan, the design of which is now at mid-stage. He also said that they are considering installing a stone retaining wall.

“King Williams Glen is a lovely Country area adjacent to Townley Hall Woods” Councillor Power said.

“Walkers often come through the woods and out onto this road. I would hate to see somebody slipping down this particular bank due to negligence.”
