Sarah Taaffe is the new President of Drogheda Lions Club

Members of the Drogheda Lions Club gathered in Scholar’s Townhouse hotel on Friday evening for the most important and glittering event of their year, the Charter Dinner.

This was the tenth chartered dinner since the restarting of the Drogheda Lions club and ten of the original members were in attendance.

The main item on the agenda at the Chartered Dinner is always the announcement and handing over the chains of office to the incoming President which his year is Sarah Taaffe.

Present for the occasion were the Mayor of Drogheda Councillor Michelle Hall for whom this was the last event of her hear as Mayor and also the District Governor of the Lions Clubs in Ireland, Gerald Cashman from Wexford.

It was a very proud moment for Sarah Taaffe when outgoing President Marian Dwyer Agrios placed the chain of office around her neck prior to taking their seats for the lavish meal that had been prepared by Scholars Hotel for them and their guests.

 The new President told Drogheda Life that initially she will be focussing her attention on continuing and strengthening a few of the Lions’ projects.

The annual tea dance for Drogheda’s senior Citizens is always very popular and Sarah said that it will be held once again in The D hotel Sunday, with the provisional date and time of 8th October at 2 pm.

“Any extra sponsorship from this goes to funding a senior citizens trip to Trabolgan” she said.

The new President of the Drogheda Lions Club with the Mayor of Drogheda, Councillor Michelle Hall and the District Governor of the Lions Clubs in Ireland, Gerald Cashman.

“Our bucket collection and food appeal dates will follow. Our golf event is also provisionally booked for next May” she added.

Praising the work of her predecessor, Marian Dwyer Agrios, Sarah said that, in the past year, five defibrillators have been purchased by the Drogheda lions club for Drogheda.

Sarah also mentioned two other Lions Club regular events, the annual food appeal in support of the St Vincent de Paul and the women’s refuge and has promised that she will announce further projects after the summer.
