A Drogheda choir’s impromptu rendition of ‘I’ll Tell me Ma” at Obama Plaza recently has been watched by well over half a million people around Ireland and across the world!
The all-female ‘Voices of the Boyne’ community choir was returning from the Limerick Sings festival, where they had already featured on the RTE News singing at the Cliffs of Moher with 12 other choirs, when they stopped at Obama Plaza for some refreshments.
Still buzzing from two days of choral singing, the ladies decided to delight diners in the Supermacs with a special version of one of most popular songs from their repertoire, completing with complicated body percussion!
Soloist Kathy McMahon got the ball rolling in her usual rousing fashion, with jaws that were just about to munch burgers, dropping!
But all became apparent, as the rest of the choir started joining in, much to the delight of the many onlookers.
Within minutes the video started was being shared on Facebook, and when it was picked up by the Drogheda Independent, Irish Independent, LMFM, and Limerick’s Live 95, the views started to rack up, reaching over 500,000 by the weekend.
The ladies had appeared on the RTE Six One news the day before, as they joined hundreds of other singers from across the globe with an impromptu performance of ‘What a Wonderful World’ at the Cliffs of Moher.
Well done ladies, you did yourselves and Drogheda proud. Sorry about the headline, only joking of course, I just couldn’t resist it! – Andy Spearman.
