Free Open Day and Mini-Conference at Sonairte Ecology Centre

Sonairte – The National Ecology Centre has announced its upcoming “Climate Action & Local Food (CALF)” Project Open Day which takes place on Friday 20th October and a mini-conference entitled “How to Fix Our Food System” on Saturday 21st October designed to engage and empower anyone involved in food production and consumption. This event is a part of Sonairte’s DECC funded Pobal Project “Climate Action and Local Food (CALF)”.

On Friday 20th October, we invite you to visit Sonairte to experience first-hand how local organic food can be produced and sold at affordable prices. Entry to the grounds and gardens will be free all day.

We have reduced the need for private car journeys by providing free bus transport to and from Sonairte on the Friday. Buses will pick up in Laytown beside the railway station, departing at 11am and returning at 3pm.

We will also have a suggestion box in the centre’s eco-shop on the day and we would love to hear your ideas on the theme “How can we fix our Food System”. Tell us what you think is important – we would love to hear from everyone from all generations and walks of life.

On Saturday 21st October, we will host a free mini-conference which will gather together a diverse group of experts, advocates, elected representatives and community members to explore ways to transition towards a more just, sustainable and secure food system. The event will be opened by Louth TD Ged Nash and will feature speakers from Ireland and Europe addressing the important topic of creating a food system in Ireland which we can depend on while also protecting and restoring our invaluable natural and cultural heritage.

This event will offer a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration among participants from all walks of life. The event aims to address critical issues surrounding our food system, such as sustainability, equity, and resilience, and explore innovative solutions to create a more equitable and ecologically beneficial food ecosystem.

We have reduced the need for private car journeys by providing free bus transport on Saturday to and from the event with pick up points in Drogheda, Mosney and Laytown (pick-up times and locations to follow).

Both entry to the event and bus transport are free but tickets which include bus transport must be ordered HERE before 5 pm on 10th October in order to secure a bus seat.

Workshop presentations will be available on https://www.sonairte.ie  after the event.
