The local Cross Country season is well and truly underway, with The Athletics Louth even age championships taking place in Darver recently.
A tough course made for some exciting racing, with athletes across a variety of age groups all vying for the coveted podium positions and team medals.
Getting things underway for Boyne AC, young Caitlin Hughes ran a super race in the girls u10 800m race, finishing in a fine 8th place overall.
In the boys’ race, Malachy Brodigan finished in 17th, with club-mates Conor Hughes and Rasmus Fangerau close behind.
The u12s had the much longer 2,000m distance to contend with and a tough step hill thrown in for good measure.
In the girl’s race, Isabelle Winters ran well to finish in the top ten, placing 9th, with teammate Laoise Black running well also.
Dara Ellie Winters continues to make a strong return to competition following a long spell of injury, and her 11th place finish in the u14 girls 3,000m race, shows that she is definitely on the comeback trail.

Eoin McEntee and Riley Byrne ran superbly in the boy’s u14 event, pushing each other on over the tough distance, with McEntee finishing in 6th place and Byrne not far behind in 7th.
In the u16 4,000m boys race, rising distance star Jack Garvey ran a super tactical race to claim the bronze medal with Naoise McAvinia hot on his heels in fifth and Seamus Keenan just behind in six6th.
Thanks to their combined finishing places, the boys also won the Gold team medal for their efforts, a super result in such a tough and competitive field.
In the men’s Novice race, over 6,000m, Andrew White ran a super time of 25.20 to finish inside the top 20.
