Young voices take a stand against bullying in powerful new short film

Following a hugely successful première in Drogheda’s Omniplex Cinema, Foscadh Housing’s Loving Life Choir is now sharing its new short film Breaking the Silence with schools, parents, and community groups across Ireland.

The ten-minute film, created by young people for young people, uses music, drama, and visual storytelling to explore the realities of bullying. Inspired by the real-life experiences of choir members, it carries a powerful message of resilience, inclusion, and hope for children and teenagers who may feel isolated.

Ken O’Heiligh, founder of the choir, said the project has already sparked important conversations. “This film isn’t just about raising awareness, it’s about opening doors for conversations that young people may find hard to start on their own. Teachers, parents, and youth leaders can use Breaking the Silence as a tool to encourage openness, empathy, and action. Once the conversation starts, you may be surprised by the feedback.”

Funded by the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal through the Community Foundation Ireland, the project gave choir members the chance to co-write the script, perform the soundtrack, act in scenes, and co-produce the final cut. The group also created a striking outdoor mural in Drogheda to symbolise inclusion and resilience.

Breaking the Silence is now freely available to watch and share on the Loving Life Choir’s YouTube channel.

“Bullying thrives in silence,” added Ken O’Heiligh. “Our young people are showing that when voices come together, silence is broken. We hope this film gives others the courage to speak, share and know they are not alone.”
