Forty children took part in a colourful and creative day of carnival fun as Droichead Arts Centre’s Carnival Collective returned for its second year as part of Cruinniú na nÓg.

Designed for children aged seven to 11, the event celebrated all things carnival, giving participants the opportunity to create music, dance routines, costumes and decorations before taking part in their very own mini parade.

Throughout the day, the children worked alongside Droichead Arts Centre’s Carnival Collective team, including Kieran Gallagher, Vivienne Byrne, Breda Marron, Yvonne Dowd and Darrin Finnegan, engaging in a series of hands-on workshops exploring the many elements involved in creating a carnival.

The workshops combined rapid drumming, prop preparation, costume creation and choreography, allowing participants to experience every aspect of carnival production.

After learning new skills and developing their creative ideas, the children came together for a vibrant parade showcasing their newly acquired moves, rhythms and artistic creations.

Inclusivity was at the heart of the event, ensuring all children were able to participate regardless of ability.

Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan, which aims to nurture and support the creative potential of children and young people across the country.

The Children’s Carnival Collective is funded by Creative Ireland Louth.
