Traffic Calming Measures Planned for Donore and Bettystown

Residents in Donore and Bettystown are set to benefit from new traffic calming measures, with Meath County Council confirming plans to install a raised table crossing outside St Mary’s National School in Donore and speed cushions on two local roads. The works are aimed at improving road safety and reducing vehicle speeds in both communities.

Local East Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor, Stephen McKee, has welcomed a commitment from Meath County Council that a raised table crossing will be installed shortly at the Pedestrian Crossing outside St.Mary’s NS Donore along with speed cushions for the Staleen Road, Donore in addition to speed cushions for the Narroways Road, Bettystown.

McKee stated: ‘I am pleased that my lobbying for improved road safety outside St.Mary’s National School Donore has taken onboard by Meath County Council. They tell me that a new raised table crossing will shortly be installed outside
the School. This will help slow down traffic. Furthermore, speed cushions will also be installed on the L1601 Staleen road which has become a dangerous road in recent years due to speeding.’

‘It is clear that general traffic-calming measures are needed on all approach roads into Donore. There is no doubt that something needs to be done to slow the speed of traffic down, particularly at the school and make the village safer and to improve the quality of life for everyone.’

‘I am pleased too that the Narroways, Bettystown will benefit with the putting in place of speed cushions to help reduce speed along that stretch of road. I have been in regular contact with Meath County Council about this road on behalf of local residents.’
‘I will keep the pressure on on behalf of local residents’ concluded McKee.
