Status Yellow Warnings and Flood Risk as Storm Dave Approaches

The local authority has issued a warning for high tides and flooding at Wellington Quay, Drogheda today.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and not leave vehicles parked there overnight in case they might be damaged by water from the River Boyne overflowing.

The flooding is being caused by the double whammy of spring tides and another storm incoming from the Atlantic.

Shopkeepers are also being advised to prepare for the flooding and to protect their properties with sandbags.

Louth County Council said:” Due to high tides and additional storm surge , it is likely that Wellington Quay, Drogheda will flood during the period of high tides on Saturday, April 4.

” Please use an alternative route during these hours.”

There are also concerns about other areas in the town centre prone to flooding such as the North Quay, Baltray road and Ship Street.

Drivers are advised to slow down and be on the lookout for flooded roads, especially in rural areas like Oldbridge and the Balray estuary along the Boyne.
