There’s some famously fabulous comedians descending on Drogheda for the Drogheda Comedy Festival this weekend but this is also a great chance for some very funny locals to showcase their talent.
On Friday night Drogheda bass guitarist turned comedian Ellen O’Reilly, who established the monthly Crescent Comedy Club last year will be delivering the giggles in a showcase for the region’s up-and-coming talent in the Purple Room presented by Colum McDonnell.
Another local laugh merchant is Sinead Walsh who delivers a very funny gig and is well regarded in the regional scene and is also touring her own Big Foot show.
Don’t miss this chance to see Sinead, her star is rising fast and she’s already started to support bigger names like local woman Deidre O’Kane who is doing rather well on the telly and the international comedy circuit.
Then there’s Duleek resident Jess Collins whose CV includes appearances at Electric Picnic, Galway Comedy Festival, the Vodafone Comedy Festival. She’s also a regular guest and MC at Tigh Heehee in the famous Róisín Dubh, Galway.
Duleek based Jess Collins is a very popular comedian in the Irish scene and has gone from paying to see her favourite Irish comedians perform to sharing some of the biggest stages in the country with them.
Her appearances at Electric Picnic, Galway Comedy Festival, the Vodafone Comedy Festival and the finals of Ireland’s national comedy competition, Show Me The Funny are legendary. She is also a regular guest and MC at Tigh Heehee in the famous Róisín Dubh, Galway.
A festival spokesperson told Drogheda Life that they really want to support grassroots talent for a number of reasons.
“It develops the stars of the future but can also be more unpredictable, intimate, locally relevant and represents the best show to be delighted and surprised” he said.
“If you want edgy and alternative and see talent before anybody else, this is the show for you.”
