Oldbridge Estate: The Battle of the Boyne Site

One of the most significant events in Irish history, the Battle of the Boyne was a pivotal 17th-century power struggle. The visitor center, located in the restored Oldbridge House, offers a deep dive into the battle fought between King William III and King James II in 1690. Here, you can see original weapons and a laser model of the battlefield.

What to See and Do

  • Historic Gardens: Explore the restored Victorian Walled Garden, featuring a unique sunken Octagonal Garden, herbaceous borders, and a museum detailing other walled gardens in the area. Admission is free, but dogs and ball games are not permitted.
  • Tearoom Pavilion: Enjoy refreshments with a view of the Victorian Garden from the deck.
  • Heritage Walking Routes: Over 5km of scenic walks on the historic battle site, which also connect to the Boyne Greenway and the Boyne Canal Walk. These walks are free, but dogs must be on leads and bikes are not permitted.

Throughout the summer, a variety of events, including children’s history workshops and outdoor theatre, are held on the estate.

  • May – September: Daily, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • October – April: Daily, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Please note: The main entrance gates close at 4 p.m. sharp, and the exit gates close at 6 p.m.
