Yellow box junctions are to be installed along the Newfoundwell Road to help relieve the situation for drivers exiting and entering housing estates located off this busy road that is heavily congested during school runs and as people leave for work.
A joint motion from Independent Councillors Kevin Callan (Urban) and Declan Power (Rural) was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Borough District of Drogheda meeting calling on Louth County Council to assess road markings from Beaulieu View to Mount Sandford and Bridge View at Newfoundwell, Drogheda.
They asked that the council install yellow box junctions at each estate on the through road at Bridge View, Mount Sandford, College Rise, Westcourt, Beaulieu View, and Harmony Heights.
“Traffic in Drogheda can be challenging, particularly during the school run and getting to work on time. Residents living in the aforementioned housing estates on Newfoundwell Road find getting in and out of their housing estates frustrating and stressful,” said Cllr. Callan.
“We have liaised with and listened to residents in these areas and want to ease their frustration and stress as best we can and improve their quality of life” said Cllr. Power.
“Cllr. Callan and I feel that yellow junction boxes at these housing estates will do this and help improve the situation.”
“We want to thank Director Davey Jones for his response and assuring us that these yellow junction boxes will be included and installed on the line marking programme for 2024,” said Cllr. Callan.
“However, while these will be installed by LCC to go with inbound traffic flow, due to the traffic volume, we would encourage the director to also include yellow junction boxes for outbound traffic, where possible, thereby allowing traffic to remain outside these boxes in congested traffic and affording residents better ease of exiting their estates,” Cllr. Power said.
