New grassroots music festival Rithim Na Bóinne coming to Drogheda

A new grassroots music festival is coming to Drogheda this summer, with the first Rithim Na Bóinne festival set to take place on Saturday, July 4.

The one day festival has been created by local promoters Shaun Rooney, Ruairi Dooley and Eoin Moynihan, who wanted to bring a new annual music and cultural event to the town.

This year’s festival will take place across three Drogheda venues, with live music running between Sarsfields and McHugh’s from 3.30pm before finishing with an after party in Earth Nightclub until 2.30am.

The line-up includes Dug, The Cacks, Grand, Three Pints Deep, Hank and the Lads, Burnchurch, Daithi and Friends, The Reds and DJ Deece, alongside a wider selection of local and emerging acts.

The organisers say the festival is focused on supporting grassroots music while also helping bring larger touring acts to Drogheda.

At the centre of the event is a focus on local talent, community and creating something people across Drogheda and the North East can support.

The idea for the festival was partly inspired by the atmosphere created during the Fleadh in Drogheda.

“When the Fleadh was held in Drogheda, it was such a well-supported and well-rounded event. It showed the potential that Drogheda has when local people, businesses, venues and visitors all get behind something together,” the organisers said.

“We wanted to bring some of that feeling and buzz back to the town. Drogheda has so much brilliant local talent and great venues, but we felt there was room for something new in the calendar that could bring people together and support grassroots music.”

The organisers hope Rithim Na Bóinne will grow into an annual weekend long festival in the future, creating opportunities for local acts to perform alongside bigger names.

“We wanted to create a festival that local people could support and feel proud of. The aim is to build Rithim Na Bóinne into an annual weekend-long festival for the town.”

The festival is supported by Louth County Council, Visit Louth, Haven Holistic and Beauty, along with a number of local sponsors.

Tickets are available now through Citizen Ticket, priced from €37.50.
