Fianna Fáil Councillor for South Drogheda–East Meath, Stephen McKee, has confirmed that Meath County Council will put in place a new footpath between the old Community Centre and the bus stop on the Garra Road, Donacarney. The works will form part of a wider project that also includes the installation of two new bus shelters at the same location.
McKee said he welcomed the approval of the project by Meath County Council and confirmed that work can begin on the much-needed footpath during the summer. He said there is a clear and urgent need to ensure that local families can safely access local bus services.
He added that the provision of a safe and accessible footpath from the Community Centre down to the bus stops has been a long-standing priority and that he is pleased to see the project now moving forward.
McKee said he has been lobbying the Council for several years about the need for a footpath at this location and described the development as good news for Donacarney residents.
He also noted that the project follows confirmation that bus shelters will be installed later this year on the Garra Road, Donacarney, close to Castle Glen, under the Council’s Schedule of Works Programme 2026.
McKee said he has lobbied hard on behalf of local residents for the provision of bus shelters in the area and will continue to work towards the inclusion of more locations as part of the rollout programme, with the aim of eventually having shelters at every bus stop in East Meath.
He concluded by saying that with continued population growth in the area, residents need access to high-quality public transport services and that improvements are required across transport and public services, including basic infrastructure such as bus shelters and footpaths.
