New Coffee for Carers campaign launched in Drogheda

Drogheda City Now has launched a new community campaign called Coffee for Carers, encouraging people across Drogheda, Louth and Meath to thank local healthcare workers with messages of appreciation and free coffees.

The 10 day campaign launched today, Tuesday May 12, to coincide with International Nurses Day and aims to recognise the contribution of frontline healthcare staff working across the region.

Members of the public are invited to post thank you messages at coffeeforcarers.ie, where each message will appear on a public “Wall of Thanks”.

For every message shared, campaign sponsor Dovida will fund a complimentary coffee for healthcare workers, which can be claimed at participating cafés including Coffee Box, Ariosa Coffee and Petrichor Coffee House.

Healthcare workers simply need to show their work ID at one of the participating cafés to receive their free coffee.

The campaign recognises all frontline healthcare roles including nurses, doctors, carers, paramedics, pharmacy staff and healthcare assistants.

Drogheda City Now said the campaign was created to acknowledge the vital role healthcare workers play not only in Drogheda, but across the wider North East region through services such as Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and community healthcare facilities.

“Our healthcare workers are the backbone of our community,” said Anthony Murphy on behalf of Drogheda City Now.

“Every day, nurses, doctors, carers, paramedics, and healthcare assistants show up for us in hospitals, nursing homes, GP practices, pharmacies, and in people’s homes.”

“They’re not just treating patients. They’re holding hands, listening to worries, and staying late when they’re needed. This campaign is our way of saying: we see you, we value you, and we’re grateful.”

Dovida has funded more than 400 complimentary coffees as part of the initiative.

Allison Doggett, General Manager of Dovida in Louth, said the company was proud to support the campaign.

“We know how much heart and dedication it takes to work in healthcare and are delighted to sponsor this fantastic initiative,” she said.

“This campaign is about more than coffee; it’s about a community standing with its healthcare workforce and saying thank you in a tangible way. We’re proud to support Drogheda’s healthcare heroes.”

The campaign also highlights Drogheda’s growing role as a regional centre for healthcare, employment and public services, with Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital serving patients from across the northeast.

“Drogheda’s healthcare workforce is part of what makes us a city,” added Murphy.

“We have the population, the infrastructure, and the people. Our healthcare workers serve not just Drogheda but the entire northeast corridor. They deserve recognition, and they deserve our support.”

The Coffee for Carers campaign will run until May 22, during which healthcare workers can redeem complimentary coffees.
