More than 120 women from across Ireland gathered in Drogheda for the 58th Soroptimist North South Conference.

The event, hosted at the Marcy Hotel, was organised by National President Siobhán Matthews alongside Drogheda Soroptimist Club President Margaret Geraghty and members of the local club.

This year’s conference explored the theme “Health, Wealth and Politics – The Future Role for Women in Ireland” and brought together speakers from politics, finance, equality advocacy and civic leadership.

Among the speakers were Labour TD Ivana Bacik, Senator Alison Comyn, Sharon Donnery of the European Central Bank, Derville Rowland of the EU Anti Money Laundering Authority, Corrinne Hasson of the National Women’s Council of Ireland, Amy McGuire and Jillian Patchett Boyce representing Soroptimists Northern Ireland.

Delegates also heard from the winners of the Soroptimist Girls’ Public Speaking Competition. Milly Seaman represented the Republic of Ireland while Kiera Hoogerboord represented Northern Ireland.

A celebratory lunch was also held to mark the 60th anniversary of the formation of Soroptimist organisations in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The conference focused on issues including political representation, women’s health, financial independence, equality and leadership, while highlighting the importance of ensuring women’s voices remain central in shaping the future of Ireland.

National President Siobhán Matthews said the event highlighted the strength of women working together across communities and borders.

“This conference highlighted the expertise, leadership and determination of women throughout Ireland. Soroptimists remain committed to advancing education, equality and opportunity for women and girls, and to ensuring that women’s voices help shape the future of our society.”

The conference was compered by Alison Comyn and Mary Simpson, while Drogheda Mayor Michelle Hall closed the event and acknowledged the contribution Soroptimists continue to make in communities across Ireland and internationally.
