Mayor Michelle Hall Calls for More Train Stations in Drogheda & East Meath to Link with DART

The Mayor, Cllr Michelle Hall has called for more train stations to be opened in Drogheda to coincide with the long awaited DART extension from Dublin to the town.

Drogheda currently has one station – McBride Station on the Dublin road.

But Cllr Hall told the local Leader newspaper there is room for more as the town and train network expands.

She said:’ There are huge numbers of people commuting to Dublin from this area. We would love more jobs in Drogheda so people do not have to commute, but that is the reality.

“We need to have more train stations here. I would love to see one at Termon Abbey and one further up from that area. We also need to see the Dunleer station re-opened.

“If we have a Dart+ we should have more stations, so we would be looking at ones in East Meath at Colpe Cross and Mornington and Bettystown, not just in Laytown. where there is one station serving that entire area.

“Iarnrod Eireann and the Government really need to look at this to make a huge difference in people’s lives.

“We also need to see more cycle lanes built as there is limited parking at Drogheda Station as it is.We do see a lot of pe9ple taking their folding bikes into the train to the cycle lanes would make that safer.”

The new DART service will arrive here in three years time.
