Local Traditions Shine: New Mummers’ Ball to Celebrate Community and Heritage

Drogheda Credit Union is delighted to announce its continued support for the Seán Corcoran Series 2025, now in its third year. As part of this year’s celebrations, the credit union is the official sponsor of The Mummers’ Ball, a brand new event for the series.

The Mummers’ Ball will take place on Sunday, 7th September, at the Old Methodist Church on Laurence Street from 2:30 PM. This event welcomes adults and children of all ages for a celebration of music and family fun.

Tickets are free but must be pre-booked via the festival website.

Guests will be welcomed by celebrated dancer Edwina Guckian and the lively Stray Sod Céilí Band for a “called céilí.”

Upon arrival, attendees can choose from a colourful selection of mummer’s hats and costumes to join the fun in true traditional style.

“We are delighted to support the Seán Corcoran Series,” said Patricia White, Business Development and Marketing Manager at Drogheda Credit Union. “The Mummers’ Ball is a joyful celebration of community, heritage, and creativity.”

In preparation for The Mummers’ Ball, a special ‘Making Day’ will be held on Sunday, 31st August, also at the Old Methodist Church.

This day features two events: a Professional Makers Workshop from 11 AM to 2 PM (€10 ticket) and a free Mummers Costume Making Factory from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, which welcomes adults and children who want to learn how to make their own mummer’s hats. Both events require pre-booking through the festival website.

Rósa Corcoran, Curator and Artistic Director of the Seán Corcoran Series, noted the personal connection to the partnership. “My grandmother, Moira Corcoran, was a founding member of the Drogheda Credit Union in 1967.

Our partnership is very important to the festival, and we’re really looking forward to the expanded series of events they are supporting this year, with the Mummers’ Ball as the highlight.”

The Seán Corcoran Series begins on Friday, 5th September, with an exciting line-up across Drogheda over the weekend. Tickets for The Mummers’ Ball and all other events are available at seancorcoranseries.com.
