Community Historian Brendan Matthews will present the last of the Wednesday evening Summer Walk n Talks of 2022 this coming Wednesday evening beginning at 7.30pm starting at the Mall.
Titled “Tales from the Quay-side”, the evening will begin at the end of the North-Quay/Mall area at 7.30pm, where Brendan will take you on a Quay-side Stroll across the North Strand area and speaking about a sad event that took place here in the early 20th century.
The Walk will then move to Donors Green and back along Steampacket Quay; where Brendan will elaborate on the origins and significance of Newtownstalaban, Viking Place-names along the Boyne, the Artist L.S. Lowry, the history of Greenmount and Boyne Mill, Ushers Mill and a forgotten ancient graveyard close to the Baltray/Greenhills road junction.
The evening will finish at Merchants Quay with a couple of interesting and intriguing tales being told. This event is free of charge; however donations for the further study & research of Community History will be greatly welcomed on the evening.
