There was national championship success for Louth at the weekend as Aaron McDonagh of Killineer Pitch & Putt Club was crowned the 2026 National Intermediate Gents Strokeplay Champion.
McDonagh produced three strong rounds at Tullamore Pitch & Putt Club to finish on 16 under par and secure the national title against competitors from across Ireland.
After opening with a strong 49, McDonagh followed it with an excellent second round of 47 before closing with a 50 to seal the championship against players from clubs across Ireland.
The championship formed part of one of the biggest weekends on the Pitch & Putt Ireland calendar, with the National Gents Strokeplay Championships taking place across Tullamore and Kilbeggan.
Tullamore hosted the Intermediate competition on Saturday, where McDonagh came out on top to bring the National title back to Killineer.
His victory is another significant achievement for Killineer Pitch & Putt Club and the wider Louth pitch and putt community.
Killineer has also played its part in hosting major competition this season, welcoming competitors to the club for the Leinster Ladies Strokeplay Championship in July.
The National Strokeplay Championships bring together qualifiers from across the country, with players competing in Senior, Intermediate and Junior grades for the opportunity to become a National Champion.
For McDonagh, three excellent rounds in Tullamore culminated in a -16 winning total and the 2026 National Intermediate Gents Strokeplay title, bringing another National honour back to Killineer.
