Twenty-two swimmers from Drogheda Swim Club will represent the town at national championship level this summer following a successful season in the pool.
Twelve swimmers have qualified for the Irish Age Group Championships, which take place at the University of Limerick Arena from July 9 to 12. A further ten swimmers will compete at the Irish Youth and Senior Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin from July 21 to 25.
The achievement is another milestone for a club that continues to compete successfully at regional and national level despite having fewer training hours available than many clubs around the country.
Drogheda Swim Club trains at both Aura Drogheda and the Integral Fitness & Leisure Centre, with swimmers ranging from newcomers to experienced competitors.
Strong performances at Summer Festival
The national championship qualifications come on the back of a successful weekend for the club at the Summer Festival event held at the National Aquatic Centre.
Several Drogheda swimmers returned home with medals following strong performances across the competition.
Club officials also paid tribute to the coaches, volunteers and families who support swimmers throughout the season.
Representing Drogheda on the national stage
The club caters for swimmers of all ages and abilities, with training programmes ranging from novice level through to senior competitive squads.
To join the club, new swimmers must be able to swim 100 metres, equivalent to four lengths of a standard pool, using all recognised strokes.
With 22 swimmers now preparing to compete at Ireland’s biggest swimming events this summer, the club is looking forward to seeing its members represent Drogheda on the national stage once again.
Congratulations and best of luck to all the swimmers competing in Limerick and Dublin over the coming weeks.
