Internationally renowned French pianist for Drogheda Series

On Friday 21 Oct at 7:30pm in St Peter’s Church of Ireland, French pianist Philippe Cassard will mark his 60th birthday with a programme of popular and well-known works for solo piano by Mozart, Debussy and Schubert.

Philippe Cassard has established an international reputation as concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician since giving a joint recital with Christa Ludwig in Paris in 1985. He has gone on to perform with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors.

He is a frequent and popular visitor to Ireland, a country he considers his second home since his triumphant win at the inaugural Dublin International Piano Competition in 1988.

Regarded as a master of French music, he performed the complete piano works of Debussy (four recitals in a single day) in London, Dublin, Paris, Lisbon, Sydney, Vancouver, Singapore and Tokyo.

As a chamber musician, he frequently performs with artists such as Wolfgang Holzmair, Isabelle Faust plus the Ebene, Takacs, Vanbrugh string quartets and in 2012, Philippe became soprano Natalie Dessay’s exclusive pianist.

For this concert, he has chosen a selection of piano works by Debussy, one of Schubert’s last piano sonatas which is considered among the most important of the composer’s mature masterpieces and Mozart’s famous Sonata “Alla Turca” with its breathless movement that has made it one of the best-known works of all classical music. An ideal concert for any budding pianists.

Individual Concert Tickets are €20 (€18 conc.) and can be booked in advance through Droichead Arts Centre on 041 9833946 or www.droichead.com with further information available from www.droghedaclassicalmusic.com
