Host a Childline Breakfast This May and Support Young People Across Ireland

Breakfast is Better Together with Childline This May.

Busy mornings can often feel rushed and hectic, from preparing lunches and getting everyone ready to trying to grab a quick bite in between. Finding a moment to sit down and connect can be a challenge in the middle of it all.

This May, Childline by ISPCC is encouraging families, creches, schools, clubs and workplaces across the country to take time out for a shared breakfast. The aim is simple, to slow down, listen and enjoy each other’s company while supporting Ireland’s only 24 hour listening service for children and teenagers.

Every day, children and young people reach out to Childline staff and volunteers to talk about a wide range of issues, including family relationships, mental and emotional health and experiences of abuse. Many of those who make contact return again and again, with some seeking support during times of deep distress.

People are being encouraged to host their own breakfast event this month to help ensure the service can continue to support every child who needs someone to listen.

Those who register a school, creche, club or workplace will receive a breakfast event pack, including bunting, balloons, posters and wellbeing cards. These have been designed by therapeutic experts at Childline to help start conversations and encourage meaningful check ins with children and young people.

James Phelan, Head of Fundraising at ISPCC, says “A small donation can make a big difference for children who need someone to listen. We depend on donations for up to 90% of the funding which keeps us listening 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year.”
