In March we told you about Ms. Costigan’s 4th class in Duleek Girls National School who were all working on a project on lifestyle choices which was their entry into the national START competition. Today we are delighted to report that they are among the top three entries in the country.
The START ( it stands for Schools Teaching Awareness of Randomised Trials) competition is run by the Health Research Board-Trials Methodology Research Network which is a network of five university partners- NUI Galway, University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and the University of Limerick.
The top three schools nationally are invited to a special event at NUI Galway, as part of the Health Research Board- Trials Methodology Research Network, and it is a huge achievement for Duleek G.N.S. to be amongst those school this year.
The Duleek girls posted their project on ambulatory activity to the competition, before the Easter holidays and were thrilled last week when they received notification of their success.
“Only three classes are selected nationally and the judges were highly impressed by their fantastic project, commending their methodical approach to conducting a randomised trial” Ms Costigan told Drogheda Life.
“Never before has a 4th class group been shortlisted in this competition, highlighting the dedication and effort demonstrated by the girls.
“The girls are very proud of their hard work as are we all in Duleek G.N.S. They are now invited to attend the START Award Ceremony on the 17th May in the University of Galway. This will be a great way for the girls to celebrate their hard work.”
