Members of Droichead Youth Theatre from Drogheda and East Meath will be taking over the stage of the Droichead Arts Centre this Easter for two weeks, with two full scale theatre productions, funded by The Arts Council.
DYT members have been hard at work for months, delving into all aspects of the playmaking process, including acting, costume design, writing, lighting tech, directing and producing.
Their takeover kicks off with VOYAGE OF THE ORPHANS By Fiona Quinn, on March 28-30th at 7pm.
Poverty, Famine, Migration- This is Ireland then, this is Ireland now. Voyage of the Orphans tells the story of the 4,000 young Irish girls displaced during the 1840s. We follow them as they discover what it means to leave all they’ve ever known behind, in search of hope, a fresh start, and the courage to begin again in Australia.
From famine to fairy tale. Week two of the DYT takeover sees Tales of Larkafenc, a new play devised by Droichead Youth Theatre, take to the stage from April 4th-6th at 7pm.
Fairies, witches, a jazz club in a swamp, and three pirates on an adventure… senior DYT members are writing a brand new play aimed at children aged 10-12, inspired by their childhood memories, and dreams for the future.
Droichead Youth Theatre members are so excited to bring a year’s worth of hard work, dedication, and artistic experimentation to audiences this Easter. Be prepared to be enthralled with our energy, dedication, and tenacity in bringing you a performance you will never forget!
