Tredagh Boxing Academy enjoyed a successful trip to the prestigious Manchester Box Cup, returning home with two gold medals and three silver medallists after competing against some of the best boxers from across Europe.
Darragh Smyth and Cian Smyth were the club’s standout performers, both claiming gold medals following impressive victories in their finals.
Cian Smyth successfully defended his Manchester Box Cup title, defeating the current London champion from Harrow Boxing Club in what was described as one of the bouts of the tournament. The victory earned Cian his second consecutive Manchester Box Cup crown.
Darragh Smyth also captured gold, defeating a boxer from The Lions Boxing Gym in Bradford. After forcing a standing count in the opening round, Darragh boxed superbly throughout to secure a unanimous points victory and claim the title after narrowly missing out last year.
The club also celebrated silver medal success for Patrick Lavery and Cole Everitt following two highly competitive finals.
Cole Everitt lost out by the narrowest of margins in a 3-2 split decision against a talented southpaw from Boarshaw Boxing Club after producing what was described as his best performance to date.
Patrick Lavery, competing at heavyweight after moving up a weight division, also claimed silver after a closely fought contest against the undefeated Wakefield Trinity Boxing Club champion.
Daniel Mathews produced a strong performance against last year’s champion but was unfortunate to lose out on a narrow 3-2 split decision. After a tactical opening round, Daniel came back strongly and appeared to win the final two rounds, making the verdict a tough one to take.
James Hackett was also due to compete in a final but was unfortunately ruled out following a medical examination.
The club praised all six boxers for their performances and thanked supporters and coaches for their hard work in preparing the boxers for the tournament as Tredagh finished with an impressive haul of two gold and three silver medals.

The club looks forward to returning to Manchester in six weeks with their Junior Team. They extend their gratitude to the Manchester Box Cup Team for once again running a fantastic tournament.
