Helping people feel their best has always been at the heart of Merakí founder’s career. After more than 13 years in the beauty industry, she is now preparing to open a new wellness studio in Drogheda that combines beauty treatments and Reformer Pilates in one welcoming space.
The idea for Merakí grew from her own experience with Reformer Pilates. What began as a way to improve her posture and build strength soon became something much more.
“I quickly fell in love with it,” she explains. “I wanted to create a space where people could take care of themselves in every way, bringing movement, beauty and wellness together under one roof.”
Once the idea took hold, there was no turning back. Months of planning, learning and stepping outside her comfort zone have led to the creation of a business she believes will offer something different to the local community.
Merakí has been designed as a place where women can focus on their wellbeing, both inside and out.
It’s about more than beauty or exercise. It’s about creating a space where women can invest in themselves and leave feeling stronger, more confident, and healthier, both mentally and physically. That’s what inspired me to expand into Reformer Pilates and create Merakí.
Choosing Drogheda was a natural decision.
“It’s a growing community and I wanted to create somewhere people could come together to focus on their health and wellbeing. I’m also looking forward to supporting other local businesses and becoming part of the community.”
While opening the studio has been exciting, it has also brought plenty of challenges.
“There is so much more involved in opening a business than people realise. Every day has brought something new to learn, but each challenge has helped me grow and brought me closer to opening the doors.”
Throughout the journey, the encouragement of family and friends has been invaluable.
“I definitely couldn’t have done this on my own. My family, especially my dad, and my friends have supported me every step of the way.”
She has also been impressed by the encouragement she has received from the local business community.
“I reached out to local businesses and organisations for support and advertising, and everyone has been so helpful. The response has been amazing.”
With the opening day approaching, her focus is firmly on creating a positive experience for every client.
“I want people to feel welcomed, supported and comfortable from the moment they arrive. It’s not just about the workout or the treatment. It’s about creating an experience where people enjoy looking after themselves and want to come back.”
Looking to the future, her ambition is simple: to build a community around Merakí where clients feel at home.
“For me, success is seeing people walk through the doors, enjoy their experience and leave feeling stronger, happier and more confident. If Merakí becomes a place that people genuinely love coming to and feel part of, then I’ll consider that a success.”
For anyone considering starting a business, she has one piece of advice:
“Believe in your idea and don’t be afraid to take the leap. There will always be challenges, but if you’re passionate about what you’re creating and willing to work hard, it’s incredibly rewarding.”
