Last Saturday was a day of mixed emotions at Shamrock Lodge the home of Boyne Rugby Club. Prior to their Leinster League Div 1A game with Tullamore, a minutes silence was observed to respect the passing recently, of founding member, Seamus ‘Sham’ Davis.
However, a thrilling rugby game followed between two sides who were battling to secure & consolidate their position at the top of the Leinster League table. In an exciting encounter, Boyne managed to get maximum league points from the encounter with a great win over their midland rivals on the score 30 : 24. Tries by Collie Joyce-Ahearne, Jack Mitchell (2) and Rian Kindlon ensured victory with the extra points being kicked by Karl Keogh. This win sees Boyne occupy 2nd place in the league table with 3 wins out of their four opening league games.
Following this game two players were honoured for their long-playing service to the club. Eoghan Duffy has made 150 appearances, and Oisín Howell has clocked up 100 appearances. Both players have come through the youth system of the club.
