Saturday 8th October will be a memorable night for members of the Boomerang Youth Club’s Basement Sounds initiative. That’s the night they release “Its A Drawda Thing”, the album they’ve been working on for months .
The album launch will take place in the Droichead Arts Centre at 8.00 pm and will include all 15 of the songs played live by the various young bands and musicians featured on the album. Needless to say, excitement is nearing fever pitch at Boomerang already.
Basement Sounds is a music initiative within Boomerang Youth Service focused on providing a safe and supportive environment, where young artists can explore their creativity and musical curiosity!
Following the launch of Basement Sounds in 2021 a custom made Sound booth was built within the studio and Boomerang have enjoyed a very busy and creative year, engaging with so many wonderfully talented young musicians in Drogheda.
The idea for ‘It’s A Drawda Thing’ Album grew organically through engagement with young musicians from the Drogheda area. It was also a direct response to the limitations all of these young musicians faced during the pandemic.
“We now had the time, space, energy and young people to fully collaborate on ‘It’s A Drawda Thing’ and it was a memorable and creative journey for all involved” said Seán Mc Cluskey of Basement Sounds.
“Every song featured on this album was recorded and produced in our studio in collaboration with young artists from Drogheda. On October 8th, we will launch ‘It’s A Drawda Thing’, with a live performance of the album on the night.
“The process of making the album was incredible. A full collaboration between Basement Sounds and the young artists of Drogheda.
“We have 15 acts and performers on the album. Ambient soundscapes, trad trio, samba workshop, and lots of original music. There is a huge variety of music on this release and every young artist on it deserve praise for how they engaged with us during the recording process.
“It was at times a long process but one that was thoroughly worth it. Thanks to Creative Ireland for the support in making this happen and the Droichead Arts Centre for their generosity. Can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
