What a month it’s been for Ace AC and for Lorcan Forde Dunne. Lorcan was crowned National u17 1500m indoor champion a month ago and last Saturday pulled off the performance of his life in the Irish Milers 1500m event in Santry with a new PB of 3.52. What makes this result more special is that it’s 4 seconds inside the European U18 qualification time of 3.56.
This is the fastest time achieved in Ireland year to date by an u17 or u18 so, barring some massive results elsewhere around the country over the coming weeks, Lorcan will be heading for Slovakia with the Irish team for the European u18 Championships in July. This isn’t the first time Ace AC have had representation at this event with 800m runner Neil Culhane having qualified a few years ago also.
An interesting twist to this huge news is that Lorcans Ace AC team mate Shea O’Donnell ran in the same race also achieving a big PB of 3.58. Shea is only 2 seconds outside of the qualification time with a few more opportunities in the coming weeks to meet that standard required. What a story that could be for the Club!
