Drogheda Gardai has given Centenary medals and Certificates to the proud families of a number of former members who gave wonderful service to the force.
The presentations were made by Supt Andrew Watters at the local station last Friday.
The first was to 89 year old Paddy Maguire who flew in from the United States where he has lived most of his life, for the occasion.
He is the son of the late Garda Michael Maguire who passed away on January 17, 2000 last.
Michael was one of the first members of An Garda Siochana.
He joined on November 18, 1922 and served with the force for 41 years with Drogheda station his final posting.
Paddy is very proud of his Irish heritage and his dad’s long association with the Gardai.
He said receiving the medal was a wonderful moment for him and his family.
Paddy was accompanied by his sister Maeve Clifford.
She is both the daughter of Michael Maguire and the wife of deceased Garda Superintendent Jeremiah Clifford who died on August 5, 2023.
Gerry served in Mullingar and retired on January 14,2000.
This was also an extremely proud moment for Maeve.
Detective Garda Noel Kirwan from Garda Headquarters was also there for the presentations.
Louth Gardai said a very pleasant morning was had by all as the Maguires shared wonderful stories about the two great Gardai they had in their lives.
