For the first time ever, the Louth Plein Air Art Festival is holding an exhibition of its artists’ work in The Basement Gallery at An Tain Arts Centre in Dundalk. The exhibition, which opened on Wednesday, 6th August, runs until this Saturday, 23rd August.
The exhibition features 39 paintings by 30 artists, ranging from amateurs to professionals.
All were delighted to have their work on display, capturing the essence of the two painting locations this year: Anaverna House in Ravensdale and the village and beach of Baltray.
According to An Tain Arts Centre Director Paul Hayes, who curated the exhibition, the high standard of work made the selection process a difficult task.
The opening night saw a packed house, with artists celebrating their chosen artworks. The exhibition showcases the winning paintings chosen at the end of the festival days.
Last Sunday, the Baltray winner was chosen by Drogheda Chamber CEO Hubert Murphy, while last Saturday, the winner at Anaverna House was selected by the artists and visitors.
Some of these winning pieces were even sold on the day they were created.
Artists travelled from across Ireland and as far away as Shropshire in the UK to participate. The exhibition is open to the public and ends this Saturday. Opening hours are 10 am to 4 pm.
The festival was made possible with the support of its sponsors, including Louth County Council, Dundalk Credit Union, Drogheda Chamber, Drogheda Credit Union, and Evans Art Supplies.
