Gardaí investigating the disappearance of six year old boy Kyran Durnin have completed searches of a house and garden in Hand Street, Drogheda.
After three days of digging, searching and dismantling a large shed, in the back garden of Kyran’s grandmother and the back garden of a vacant house next door, Gardaí packed up and left the scene yesterday evening at around 5.00 pm.
A couple of hours later, at 7.18 last night, the Garda Press Office issued a statement saying that the results of the search are not being released “for operational purposes.”
“An Garda Síochána continue to appeal to anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran to contact investigating Gardaí.
“Do not rule out any information that you may have. Please do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
That has been their message throughout this disturbing case of a boy who disappeared and is now presumed to have been murdered but, after five months of inquiries and four intensive searches in premises in Dundalk and Drogheda, the whereabouts of his remains is still a mystery.
Gardaí say they have received extensive support from the public but despite this and their extensive and ongoing enquiries, they have been unable to locate Kyran who would now be 8 years old.
All week the normally quiet and close-knit community in Hand Street has been inundated with Garda vehicles and has been the attention of TV and media crews who stood outside the scene of the search for three days waiting in vain for anything to report.
So, after months of investigations it seems that, without a body being found, this case cannot move to a conclusion. For the sake of justice therefore, and to provide some closure to his family and the wider community, it is vital that the people who know the whereabouts of Kyran’s remains, put an end to this grisly affair and inform the Gardai.
